Steven Chu, the Nobel prize-winning physicist appointed by President Obama as Energy Secretary, wants to paint the world white. A global initiative to change the colour of roofs, roads and pavements so that they reflect more sunlight and heat could play a big part in containing global warming, he said yesterday.
Professor Steven Chu: Paint the world white.
This might seem like common sense for many, yet so many roofs are in fact dark. Anybody know why dark colored roofing shingles are more common than light colored shingles? Or why light colored rocks are so rarely used in asphalt?
My first guess is that it might have something to do with the relative prices for the necessary rocks. If the prices of light colored stone is higher than the more popular dark rock, then regulation on this issue could raise costs for home builders.

Hi, interest post. I’ll write you later about few questions!
